Our Story

A daughter's love became a movement

The Wendy Project was born from lived experience — the worry, the love, and the determination that no family should walk this road without support.

Karen, founder of The Wendy Project

About Karen

Like so many Australians, Karen's life changed the day dementia entered her family. Watching Wendy navigate a world that suddenly felt unfamiliar, Karen experienced first-hand the confusion, the sleepless nights and the desperate search for help that made sense.

What she found was fragmented — clinical pamphlets, endless phone trees and tools clearly never designed for the daily reality of caring for someone you love. There was plenty of information about loss, but very little about living well with dementia.

So Karen set out to build the thing she wished had existed: something warm, human, and genuinely useful. The Wendy Project is that vision — a place where dignity comes first, hope is always present, and carers finally feel supported.

“We named it after Wendy because this is her legacy — and a promise to every family who comes after us.”

In loving honour

Meet Wendy

Wendy is the heart of everything we do. Warm, witty and endlessly kind, she lit up every room she walked into — and she still does. When dementia became part of her story, it never erased who she truly is.

Her journey taught us that a diagnosis is not the end of a person's worth, joy or dignity. It's a call for those around them to show up with more patience, more love and more understanding.

The Wendy Project carries her name — and her spirit — forward, so that every family facing dementia knows they are not alone.

Dignity

Every person living with dementia deserves to be seen, heard and respected — never reduced to a diagnosis.

Hope

There is life, laughter and meaning after diagnosis. We help families find the light, not just the loss.
